ugust 15 Every few months, the selection of wines sold at the Vintages stores is changed; new wines are released. Checking out Vintages‘ and even a few of the better selling brands are being restored. There are also a number of regular LCBO Lakeshore Checking this month‘s newest releases, I found a number of prodâ€" ucts which are worthwhile to be recommended for their rarity. New Zealand has been producing some really outstanding, clean, and "grassy" Sauvignon Blanc‘s. I, perâ€" sonally, like this freshness, with a strong hint of fresh cut grass over the more mellow and often barrelâ€" locations that have a "Vintage Corner" â€" a small selection of wines which are normally only sold at the Vintage Store on Dundas Street in Mississauga. Although the selection of such specialty wines at regular outlets is somewhat limited, it cerâ€" tainly warrants a closer look because there can be some real barâ€" gains to be found. Oakville‘s LARGEST used book store, where you‘ll find every book at savings of (Just around the corner on Reynolds) Mon.â€"Sat. 10â€"6, Sunday aftemoons Choose from over 15,000 paper backs and 10,000 hard covers, al habeticall filed for easy locatlon' The kids will love our children‘s area! 50â€"70% Off We carry jigsaw puzzles, tapes, and new classical music CD‘s as well! the cover price every day (Bestâ€"sellers included!) I have to confess: I really bought this book for my son, Dan, who loves the Blue Jays (despite the strike) and will read anything with the word "baseâ€" ball" on the cover. But I found it quite fascinating even though my interest in baseball is only miniâ€" Not all wines at Vintages are expensive, so you may taste a bottle of 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Oriachovitza, Stara Zagora of Bulgaria which sells fro only $6.45. (Be thankful I did not give you the name of the producer of the previous Austrian wine, it is even longer.) of 17987 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Oriachovitza, Stara Zagora of Bulgaria which sells fro only $6.45. (Be thankful I did not give you the name of the producer of the previous Austrian wine, it is even longer.) Spain is really taking note of the new market trends and tastes, espeâ€" cially if they have to compete withâ€" When I visited, what was then East Germany a few years ago, I was first introduced to the sparkling wine Rotkaeppchen, which means "Red Riding Hood". I was amazed by the quantity produced, which has even increased. Not as dry as a French Champagne, and pleasant to sip; a bottle will cost you only $14.60. A new perspective on the sport of baseball I bet few have ever heard of a wine called Zierfandler or Spaetrot. Only those who have ever visited the Lake Como Region of Austria may have had the pleasure to taste such white wines. Now we have a blend â€":of the. ‘two.. the Gumpoldskirchen, Halbtrocken (semiâ€"dry), blended out of Spaetrot and Rotgipfler. The two compliment each other; the Spaetrot will give the spice and fruit while the Rotgipfler adds body and mellows the wine. The Gumpoldskirchen sells for $13.85. aged wines. The 1993 Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough of the South Island is just such an extra dry wine that should be excellent with shellfish and other, not overly spiced seafoods. It sells for $13.55. newest releases The Physics of Baseball by Robert K. Adair published by HarperCollins The author â€" a Yale University professor of Physics â€" demonâ€" strates beautifully the application of science to everyday life. He analyzes, for example, the differâ€" ent types of pitches and shows why the ball moves in various ways depending on how it is thrown. Perhaps, all major league pitchers understand these conâ€" cepts, but it was quite new to me and very intriguing. But baseball isn‘t just about pitching, of course. Another secâ€" tion analyzes the "fly ball" and discusses the splitâ€"second deciâ€" sions that good fielders have to make in order to catch the ball. mal. From Italy, we have the big Rubesca Riserva 1982 â€" a wine proâ€" duced by Cantina Lungarotti in Torgiano, Umbria. This 12â€"yearâ€"old wine is sold for $19.85, and in my opinion, is one of Italy‘s best. Compare it for fun with their reguâ€" lar listed Rubesco which sells for under $10 at the regular LCBO stores. And then, of course, you have the batter. Adair looks at what happens when the ball is hit perâ€" fectly and what happens when the batter is less accurate â€" hitting just the bottom part of the ball, for example. He also considers differâ€" ent types of bats â€" wood, aluâ€" minum, and the "doctored" bats that players have sometimes tried to sneak into the games â€" and how they affect the distance and speed of the balls they hit. You don‘t have to be a Physics expert to understand and enjoy this book â€" it‘s well written and always clear. And if you‘re a baseball fan, Adair may give you a new perâ€" spective on your favorite sport. One of the most exclusive Cheateaux I ever visited in Bordeaux is Rausanâ€"Segla. I remember the winemaker made me take my shoes off while walking through part of the aging cellar as the vibration would disturb the aging wine. Now that is care! I am glad that we may now buy his Chateau Rausanâ€"Segla 1991, Margaux A.C. 2d Cru. for $29.90. I would cellar this wine for a few years before opening. in the EEC. I had some incredible wines lately from there, wines which will be mentioned as they are released. For today, I would like to suggest the 1988 Don Miguel Torres Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva â€" a big wine for only $13.15 that will last at least 10 more years.
