"The doctor told me to lose weight!" Now an experienced hiker, she laughs about participating in a 45â€" kilometre marathon from Port Colborne to Port Dalhousie â€" a distance not considered part of her ‘Niagara to Tobermory‘ trek â€" "just because I felt like it. I wanted to challenge myself, and the last few kilometres felt longer than the first few!" The marathon took nine hours, eight hours of hiking plus one hour for lunch and three stops! By the time Platiel joined the group, she found herself doing a lot of ‘makeâ€"ups‘ with two others in the group, the aforementioned Bill Browne, and 58â€"yearâ€"old Ann Oakville has a strong presence in the Bruce Trail Association, with four local residents serving on its 20â€" member board of directors. "The three of us were going great guns since last September, and quite often during the summer, it was only two of us, Ann and myself, hiking up to 60 kilometres a week (just to get caught up with the rest of the group).
