Dr. Hazel Colvin is pleased 1to announce the opening of her practice at 1026 SPEERS ROAD (Just West of 4th Line) 844â€"6786 New patients (and old) welcome Housecall service also available. Oakville Beaver Weekend, Sunday, December 18, 1994 â€" 16 CARL W. DINKA Chartered Accountant is pleased to announce the relocation of his practice effective December 23, 1994 to Suite 501 345 Lakeshore Road East Oakville, Ontario L6J 1J5 Telephone: 905â€"845â€"8616 Fax: 905â€"845â€"1854 Char Designer has original sense of style (Continued from page 1) to get a glimpse inside these places. Some bring sketch pads to make notes and drawings." Crane says she has always had a natural flare for decorating, ever since she was a girl in England. She did her original training in interior decorating there, and after immigrating to Canada, did some refresher courses at Sheridan College. When her two girls were off to school, Maureen started her own busiâ€" ness â€" Contrasts of Oakville â€" and for a time, had a store on Lakeshore Road. "I was doing some interesting things in my own home â€" people were always asking for advice," she * explained, "I decided I might as well make a career of it." That was 16 years ago. Crane has been connected with the Welcome Wagon of southeast Oakville for the past 10 years and gets many new jobs through that association, as well as, through personal referrals from her regular clientele. She thinks she has an original sense of style, she explained, and encourages her clients to express their own style, boldly, with color and panache. Personally, she favors an ‘eclectic‘ approach. â€" parents, POWELL INSURANCE BROKERS LTD. on their 40 years of business success in the community of Oakvile. Bottom line, she said, "Beige is boring." And added, "There have been so many rules and regulations over the years â€" as to what you can do and what you cannot do â€" for me, that is the challenge. I think there is always a way, to overcome any situation, bridge any gap between two seemingly incompatible colors or styles." But, it takes some courage to decoâ€" rate with flare, the expert allowed. "I try to give my clients that courage." Having said that, the Oakville woman stresses that she is working for her clients â€"not the other way around. "Anything, we do have to mesh with their lifeâ€"style and sensibilities," Crane said. "So the first thing I have to do is get to know the clients and win their trust â€" because I want their homes (boats, offices, cottages), to reflect their personalities and their way of life." By and large, Oakville homes tend to be very elegant, according to this British fmport. "I would say, on the whole, people here are extremely knowledgeable," she noted. "‘Most people have great ideas, but they don‘t always know how to tie them together." Of course, even the best laid plans go awry, from time to time. As an otte and Edward Dovwell of M. Edward / Michae example, Crane will work with the woman of the house (as she does most often), in redecorating a room â€" only to have the man of the house blast off the first time he sees "the new look." "I‘ve had to soothe manyâ€"aâ€"couple who have nearly come to blows over the new sofa or wallpaper," she admitâ€" ted, candidly. She has her ways of mediating these little differences in taste and perception. "Also, you have to remember, I‘m only as good as my suppliers," she said. "If a fabric or paper is no longer available (midâ€"way through a job), I do get shouted at." Fortunately, these are rare occaâ€" sions. And she ends up with many more friends as clients than sparring partners. It has been a very busy season for decorator, Crane. What with so many two career families in Oakville, people often need help in decorating their homes. "These people have highâ€"powered jobs and they want a spectacular house for cocktail parties and corpoâ€" rate dinners," she said. While her business â€" Contrasts of Oakville â€" has had its ups and downs over the years, currently, Crane is havâ€" ing difficulty finding time to decorate her own home for the holidays. Well now, is there a moral to this story? Maybe, there is. Never throw away leftovers you could just as easily hang on your front door. (Hey, Christmas is coming. I‘m entitled to be silly.) But seriously folks, what would our lives be â€" without some sparkle, some whimsy? So, thank you, Maureen â€" to you and your kind. :i tiiifi*itit*ifi*tttttt*it*{%fit’ 4 Seafood _T3 Denfeon Steet oo e WAREHOUSE _ Markham 9054701700 2 INTERNATIONAL CO: Naor Woodbine Steales 2 PREâ€"SLICED SMOKED PRED PACIFIC fSALMON ..
