River Oaks checks out on top in chess tournament At the Halton Regional Junior Chess Tournament at River Oaks Public School on Tuesday River Oaks took first place for the third straight year. Intermediate division play will take place at River Oaks School on Tuesday, May 30. At the junior playoff the River Oaks Bruins' Bishop and Pawn both had perfect scores, checkmating all their games. River Oaks Bruins took first place medals in the categories of King, Queen, Bishop and Pawn, and took second place medals in the categories of Rook and Knight. Eleven teams from schools in the Halton District School Board) competed in round-robin play, playing 10 games each. Teams consisted of six players, each player being ranked as King, Queen, Rook, Bishop, Knight or Pawn. Teams that competed included the River Oaks Bruins River Oaks Jaguars, Robert Baldwin, Sam Sherratt, Frontenac, Martin Street, E.W. Foster, Eastview, W.I. Dick, Tom Tomson and Stewarttown.
