8- The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday May 20, 2006 Stay safe while boating The Town of Oakville is joining TOWARF -- Town of Oakville Water Air Rescue Force -- and the Canadian Safe Boating Council in observing Safe Boating Awareness Week May 20-26. TOWARF held a boating safety launch last weekend. The event featured facility tours and a rescue demonstration. TOWARF Headquarters is located at 2 Navy St. (south of Lakeshore Rd. at the bottom of Navy St. on the east side of Sixteen-Mile Creek. As more citizens turn to recreational boating as a family-based leisure activity, it's important to keep safe boating in mind. The Canadian Safe Boating Council, TOWARF, Canadian Power and Sail Squadrons, Lifesaving Society and other agencies offer boating safety courses and information -- important since a significant number of boaters lose their lives by drowning each year. Learning the importance of practicing responsible boating and the wearing of lifejackets and personal flotation devices, can save lives.
