32 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 21, 2006 Oakville Galleries plucks two awards Oakville Galleries picked up two Ontario Association of Art Galleries (OAAG) Awards at the recent Annual Celebration of Ontario's Public Art Galleries. The 2006 Design Award went to designer Mark Timmings, Timmings and Debay, for an Oakville Galleries newsletter, and Derek JJ Knight picked up the 2006 Volunteer Award for his voluntary contributions to Oakville Galleries since 1999. The 2006 OAAG Awards were announced June 16 at a reception and celebration at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and recognized several other categories including best curatorial writing and best exhibitions in the province. This was the 29th presentation of the OAAG awards, which were conceived and coordinated by OAAG to publicly recognize high achievement in the visual arts. Bronte hosts Harbourfront Festival The Bronte Village BIA is hosting its Harbourfront Festival this weekend. The event will be held June 24 and 25. The Harbourfront Festival in Bronte will be held at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park at the Bronte Butterfly Gazebo. The festival will begin Saturday at 9 a.m., with an Oakville-Trafalgar Lions Club pancake breakfast near the gazebo. The Oakville-Trafalgar Lions Club will also be hosting a beer garden. Bronte BIA merchants and vendors from Oakville and the GTA will have set up booths for the weekend. The Moonshine Café and the Pic-a-Deli Restaurant have organized a Saturday afternoon Battle of the Bands at the gazebo stage starting at about noon. This is an elimination round and the finalists will entertain at Bronte's Canada Day Festival on July 1. John Marlatt of the Moonshine Café has also organized the musical entertainment for Saturday night beginning between 7 and 8 p.m., and Sunday afternoon starting between noon and 1 p.m. The festival opensat 10 a.m. on Sunday. Harbourfront Festival will be geared for families. Children can enjoy bouncies and face painters, plus family rides around Bronte in the Prudential Town Centre Realty Limousine a horse-drawn wagon. The Tall Ship Empire Sandy will be moored at the pier for the entire weekend. Tickets are still available for the Friday night and Saturday lunch cruises. There is no entrance fee to the festival.
