www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 23, 2006 - 19 Harbourfront Festival in Bronte this weekend The Bronte Village BIA is hosting its Harbourfront Festival this weekend. The event will be held June 24 25. The Harbourfront Festival in Bronte will be held at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park at the Bronte Butterfly Gazebo. The event will begin Saturday at 9 a.m., with a Oakville Trafalgar Lions Club pancake breakfast near the gazebo. The Oakville Trafalgar Lions Club will also be hosting a beer garden. Bronte BIA merchants and vendors from Oakville and the GTA will have set up booths for the weekend. The Moonshine Café and the Pic-aDeli Restaurant have organized a Saturday afternoon Battle of the Bands at the gazebo stage starting at about noon. This is an elimination round and the finalists will entertain at Bronte's Canada Day Festival on July 1. John Marlatt of the Moonshine Café has also organized the musical entertainment for Saturday night beginning between 7 and 8 p.m., and Sunday afternoon starting between noon and 1 p.m. The festival opens Sunday at 10 a.m. Harbourfront Festival will be geared for families. Children can enjoy bouncies and face painters, plus family rides around Bronte in the Prudential Town Centre Realty Limousine a horse drawn wagon. The Tall Ship Empire Sandy will be moored at the pier from the entire weekend. Tickets are still available for the Friday night and Saturday lunch cruises. There is no entrance fee to the festival. Multicultural picnic Tuesday The Halton Multicultural Council (HMC) hosts its annual Multiculturalism Day Picnic on Tuesday, June 27 at Bronte Creek Provincial Park. The event held in partnership with Maple Lodge Farms is in the Breckon Shelter from 4 to 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to enjoy food, entertainment, the beautiful surroundings of the park and browsing community organization display booths. To attend the picnic, print off the flyer available at www.halton-multicultural.org and present it to the parking attendant for free parking. The HMC is the only agency that facilitates and assists the settlement and integration of new immigrants and refugees to Halton Region. Halton Waste Management Site The Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS) is Halton Region's one stop solution for the 3 Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), yard waste composting, safe disposal of household hazardous waste and of course, garbage disposal. Use of the HWMS carries a nominal charge of $5.00/vehicle for up to 50 kg, $10/vehicle between 51 - 150 kg and 9.8 cents for every kg thereafter starting from "0" kg. Halton residents now have the opportunity to recycle their natural wine and champagne corks, free of charge, by bringing them to the HWMS. Unfortunately, synthetic plastic corks cannot be accepted.
