The Phoenix and Brams United Blaze needed penalty kicks to decide the gold-medal match, with Genevieve Crotty, Myranda Hobbs and Tayler Kleine-Hermelink finding the net to give Oakville a 3-0 edge. Phoenix keeper Lindsay James turned aside four Blaze attempts in the shootout after the teams finished regulation time in a 1-1 draw. Celine DaCosta scored the Oakville goal during regulation, tying the game in the second half. Earlier in the tournament, Oakville edged Dixie 3-2, blanked Georgetown 4-0 and tied SPORTSBRIEFS Barrie 0-0. Jessica Losch, Tegwen Lewis and DaCosta tallied against Dixie, while Alexandra Rigby, Jenna D'Aurizio, Lewis and Crotty had the Phoenix markers versus Georgetown. Also contributing to the gold-medal win were Kendra Wynter, Alexandra Hayes, Kirsten Miller and Alexandra Brown. The Phoenix's sister team, the Heat, earned bronze in the tournament. Tyke Hawks earn silver in Niagara The Oakville Hawks nearly made their first tyke lacrosse tournament of the season a golden experience. Oakville posted a 2-1 record in preliminaryround play to earn a berth in the final of a competition in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Facing Orangeville in the gold-medal contest, the Hawks rallied from a 4-0 deficit to force overtime before dropping a 5-4 decision, Oakville's second one-goal loss to Orangeville in the tournament. Adam Wolf (two), Jonathan Donville and Andrew Deryck scored in the final as the Hawks earned silver. Ethan McArthur played a strong game in goal for Oakville, while Matthew Thom, Matthew Milford and Kevin Dong frustrated Orangeville with tenacious defensive play. Also scoring during the tournament for the Hawks, sponsored by Salon Monzer, were Johnny Mastromarco, Nicholas Randell, Zachary Dies, Kevin Dobko, Michael Hickey, Henry Luel, Tyler Witcher-Dowling, Michael Dobko, Brett Corbeth, Thom and Milford. Jackson den Elzen and Matthew Dilella earned helpers. Oakville downed West Durham 10-1, defeated Beaches 8-2 and fell 8-7 to Orangeville earlier in the tournament. Consolation for mosquito A's The Oakville A's minor mosquito baseball team won the consolation championship at a recent tournament in London. Oakville clinched the Southwest Optimist consolation crown with a 10-4 win over the Ajax Spartans. Members of the team include Jason Provost, Keenan Lutzko, A.J.
