The compulsory initiative was phased in between Jan. 2 and June 31, when health inspectors visited restaurants and take-out establishments to provide information about the program, completed summary inspection reports and only issued warning notices for non-compliance. Full enforcement commenced July 1. Summary inspection reports on local dining facilities are also now available on the Region's website, www.halton.ca/dinewise. "The disclosure of food safety inspection reports is another step to help ensure that information is accessible to patrons of Halton restaurants," said Regional Chair Joyce Savoline. The Dinewise program, which started off as voluntary in 2003, helps provide consumers with information about the food handling practices of restaurants.
