ONE AMAZING YEAR It has been Celebrate By Saving Event! Read a book -- join a book club Book Club Kick-Off Event - Whether you're looking for interesting books to read on your own or you host your own book club, this is the session for you. Our team of librarians will present a variety of thought provoking titles perfect for book clubs. Get an idea of what books your club might like to read and have a say in what books are chosen: after the presentation, members of the audience vote on the titles to be read by the library's 2006-2007 Book Club. This free event will be held on Wednesday, Sept.13 at 7 p.m. in the Central Branch Auditorium, 120 Navy Street. Already belong to a book club but don't have the resources or books to read? The Oakville Public Library offers book club kits! These kits are an easy, inexpensive way for you and your club members to access a wide variety of books perfect for book clubs. "We're thrilled to now offer Book Club Kits to the community, they make enjoying books with other book lovers effortless and affordable for everyone," says Melissa Cameron, Marketing and Development manager for the Oakville Public Library. "With more and more people joining book clubs, these kits are proving to be extremely popular," she adds. Each kit contains 10 books, eliminating the need for each club member to purchase her/his own copy, and kits have an extended loan period (six weeks) to allow enough time for reading and discussion. Multiple copies save having to wait and share, and the summaries that are included contain enough information and questions to get a good discussion started. Simply check out the kit on your library card as you would any other item, enjoy, and return when your club is finished with it. To search for book club kits, go to the library's online catalogue and in Search function, do a Title search for Book Club Kit. Belonging to a book club can be informative and fun. Two kits are available for each of the following titles (except where noted): · Atonement by Ian McEwan · Blackwater Lightship by Colm Toibin · Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury · Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes · The Giver by Lois Lowry (1 kit only) · Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood · I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou · Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini · Nine Parts of Desire by Geraldine Brooks · Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Greene · True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters by Elisabeth Robinson · We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver More book club kits will be added each year. Half of the funds used to purchase the Book Club Kits has been donated by the Friends of the Oakville Public Library.
