When this muscle is constantly overstretched (for example, with each step you take), your body develops thickened tissue where the plantar fascia attaches to the bone in your heel. Having this thickened tissue underneath your heel becomes painful with every step and can even be painful with the first step taken in the morning. Typically heel spurs develop over time or when a new activity (power walking, jogging or running) is started. Treatment of heel spurs involves visiting your Chiropodist for a full lower leg examination, specifically a gait analysis to see if the position of your foot while walking is overstretching/straining the muscles on the bottom of your foot. Your Chiropodist will evaluate your footwear, advise you on specific footwear do's and dont's for your foot type and may even suggest Custom Made Foot Orthotics. Custom Made Foot Orthotics are inserts that correctly align your foot so as not to over stretch/strain the muscles on the bottom of your foot. Custom Made Foot Orthotics are generally at least partially covered by Extended Health Insurance Plans and are also tax deductible. Q: A: I have a Heel Spur. What is that and how is it treated? www.herbalmagicsystems.com The reason 98% of the population is taking some form of supplementation whether it be vitamin, mineral or herbal, is because we are not getting the proper quantity or quality of nutrients from our current diet. Our soil has been stripped of essential vitamins and minerals, even the best of diets can be lacking in key ingredients. Supplementation will help to combat the negative effects of the factors that we can't always control like soil quality, genetic factors, air quality and pollution, as well as some we can control: stress and a busy lifestyle which can lead to poor nutrition and the consumption of fast foods. Herbal Magic's goal is to bring the body back into balance by teaching healthy lifestyles through diet, nutrition and proper supplementation. Our products are registered with the Natural Health Products Director (N.H.P.D.), a division of Health Canada, to ensure our clients are purchasing the highest quality supplements. Our scientific advisory team consists of a licensed Pharmacist and Naturopathic Dr.'s. They have created an extensive guide so we can cross reference all pharmaceutical drugs on the market, for all vitamin, mineral and herbal supplements we carry. Q: A: Why take supplements? Pachler OPTOMETRIST Oak Park Q: A: Optometrist 85 Navy St., Oakville STEVE BOURIKAS What are the risk factors for Age-Related Macular Degeneration? The macula is a small area at the very centre of your retina which is responsible for fine, detailed central visual tasks such as reading . By damaging the macula AMD can slowly take away your central vision, sometimes to the point of being unable to drive or even read. Risk factors are: 1) Smoking - Increases risk by up to 6 times. (905) 844-7600 Q: A: www.canadiansound.com Which television should I pick for my home LCD or Plasma? I always listed my interests and hobbies. Why is that not applicable now? : A resume is marketing tool that is supposed to capture your most relevant work experience, skills, education and achievements on paper, preferably no more than 2 pages in length. A resume's purpose is like a brochure; the employer reads the information and decides if this is a product worth investigating further. If you are able to be clear and concise and use terminology relevant to your industry, you are making it easy for the employer to ask you in for an interview. As for including your interests and hobbies as a category in your resume, this really does not reflect your skills and experience. However, if you can present these as relevant skills that would enhance your candidacy, you can include them with your other achievements or accomplishments. For example, if you hold a Black Belt in karate, you can present this as an accomplishment and elaborate on the skills that you acquired or utilized over the years in meeting this goal (e.g., time management, instruction, working in a team environment, etc.). 2) Diet - A diet low in anti-oxidant vitamins and minerals is a significant risk factor. 3) Excessive sunlight exposure - Blue light from the sun can damage the retina. 4) Excessive weight / Obesity 5) Age - Risk increases from 8.5% for people 43-54 years of age to a high of 36.8% for people over 75. 6) Family History - may increase your risk. 7) Gender - Females are more susceptible. 8) Blue or light coloured irises - Light coloured eyes allow up to 100 times more light reach the retina than dark coloured eyes and there is less melamin (pigment) to absorb it. 9) Race - Light skinned people are more likely to develop AMD than dark skinned people. The type of TV that you choose depends on your specific application. Sometimes a particular application performs better to the strength of one technology over the other. If the requirement is for a flat panel television 50" or larger, a plasma TV is recommended. Plasma sizes generally start at 42" and are available through to 60". Currently, LCD technology is available up to 46". If you are considering a larger flat panel TV set, plasma television is recommended. Plasma technology has a faster "refresh rate" than LCD technology which translates to a smoother picture. This is the case when viewing fast moving action on your television like a hockey game. If the surface of the television is exposed to direct sunlight, an LCD television is advised. LCD televisions do not reflect ambient light at the viewer so you won't get the glare off of the screen that you would with a plasma. If still images or video games will be displayed for prolonged periods of time, an LCD television is suggested because the image is less likely to be "burned" into the screen. Most importantly, it is important to choose a set from a quality, leading manufacturer that has the infrastructure in place to service their product. Q A : I haven't prepared a resume for some time.
