In fact, it's encouraged. Mulv-Ale, True Burton Ale, Stoate's Grand Lager and The Wright Stuff respectively named after Mayor Ann Mulvale and her challengers Rob Burton, Chris Stoate and Janice Wright are now available at Oakville LCBO's and at the local brewery, where beer election results and voting trends will be posted. The brewery was unable to reach the town's fifth mayoral candidate, Daniela Giecewicz, to participate in the Vote with your Throat campaign. "We wanted to have fun with the election," said Arnold, who approached the LCBO with the idea in March. While the bottles were already available at some local LCBOs, the Trafalgar Brewing Company held a meeting Tuesday at the Oakville Public Library's central branch to officially launch the beer election in the presence of the four candidates. Not only does Vote with your Throat bring fun to municipal politics, Arnold said, but some of its proceeds will go to the Oakville Public Library's charitable fund as part of the LCBO's Discover our Community initiative. The four beers, which show each candidate's head floating in a pint, are all distinctly different in taste, "as different from one another as are the candidates themselves," said Arnold. B u r t o n - o n - Tr e n t , England, is the birthplace of modern ales, so the brewery's Burton ale was an obvious choice to represent Burton. Trafalgar started brewing Burton Ale in 2003, a popular brew that just missed becoming Oakville's "Beer of choice," said Arnold. "It didn't quite work, so we've been re-jigging the recipe," he added, smiling, referring to Burton's near-win of the Mayoral seat in the last election. "Now we think we have a winner." Burton, his beer in hand, thanked the local brewery for teaming up with the LCBO and the library, a comment echoed by Mulvale, Stoate and Wright. "I'm very pleased that two of my favourite activities can come together," Burton added, smiling. Mulv-Ale is a red ale the brewery has been making for nearly 20 years. "It's been our top beer for as long as we've had the brew- ery. It's proven leadership," said Arnold. "It's got the right balance of sweetness and bitterness." Mulvale noted with this being small business week, the timing of Trafalgar Brewery's announcement was perfect. "I would be nice to win this vote," she added, while holding a bottle of Mulv-Ale, "but the one vote we intend to win is Nov. 13." Stoate's Grand Lager is a "high achieving lager" that "gets down to business," Arnold said, referring to Stoate's extensive business background. "I think this beer is ready to step up and take a leadership role." Stoate said creating more homegrown businesses like Trafalgar Brewery is one of the key items on his election platform, and that more small businesses in town "will improve the quality of life." "I intend to have this improve my quality of life," he added, grinning, his beer in hand. The gold coloured Pilsner, The Wright Stuff, has been in Oakville many years but "seldom ventured beyond its north eastern roots," said Arnold. "I think we're going to find The Wright Stuff is going to go from being just a regional presence to taking care of all of Oakville." Wright thanked the brewery for "bringing a little bit of fun into the game." "If you don't buy the Wright stuff," she added, smiling, "you know what you've bought." Not only is the Trafalgar Brewing Company running a Vote with your Throat municipal campaign in Oakville, it's also including Toronto and London mayoral candidates in the fun, and those beers will be available at the brewery and in LCBOs in those areas. "We're very busy, but it's a lot of fun," said Arnold. "We wanted something lighthearted and fun, and we wanted it to bring attention to municipal politics." · POOL TABLES BILLIARD ACCESSORIES · DART BOARDS CABINETS · POKER TABLES CHIPS CARDS · AIR HOCKEY BUBBLE HOCKEY · FOOSBALL · SHUFFLEBOARD SALE $1199 SALE $1599 99 OLUMINA REGULAR SALE $649 · · INCLUDES 500 TOKENS Come join our team Barrie Burlington Brampton Etobicoke Forest Hill Guelph Kitchener 705-725-1170 905-336-1956 905-451-3247 416-622-1922 416-489-7447 519-220-0915 519-894-4709 Markham Milton Mississauga Newmarket North York Oakville Pickering 905-471-2929 905-875-0391 905-891-8735 905-853-0780 416-635-1022 905-847-2210 905-837-9601 Richmond Hill Scarborough St. Catharines Toronto East Uxbridge Whitby 905-884-4496 416-266-1060 905-688-6243 416-686-7784 905-852-7743 905-666-3273 SALE $499 S XAS REGULA Don't Just Start a Job...
