Projected tax increases for 2007 will not exceed 2.5% - an increase that continues to be below inflation Brent will uphold Halton's proven policy of investing in the ongoing renewal of infrastructure necessary to maintain our "quality of life" Halton has acheived a Triple-A credit rating for the last 17 years Brent is a leader committed to protecting the health and safety of Halton residents while operating the Region in a fiscally responsible manner. What is the "Campus Plan"? An innovative concept that would see Halton Region, the Halton Regional Police Service, the Halton District School Board and other agencies locate on the same property to create a unique `one-stop-shopping opportunity' for a wide variety of government services that will save millions of tax dollars. The Campus Plan is in response to the public call to see government bodies work together like a business to improve service delivery while saving both capital and operating costs. Are my Halton residents' taxes increasing? After 36 years as a Halton employee, the last eight as CAO, I fully understand the need to keep taxes as low as possible. Halton residents to enjoy an excellent quality of life, while tax increases have remained at or below the rate of inflation for the past 11 years (for Regional programs). In fact, several of those years, Regional taxes were at zero. The Projected 2007 rate increase for water and wastewater is 6.5%. This reflects the full cost recovery for providing clean safe water and environmentally safe disposal of wastewater. Brent's Message You may wonder why I have chosen to run for public office. I feel like I've spent the last 36 years preparing for this job. My former position as CAO (Chief Administrative Officer) of Halton Region gave me a clear understanding and appreciation of the complicated and complex relationships between the levels of government. I know the people behind the scenes... in the Halton local municipalities as well as at the Province and in Ottawa. I have developed solid relationships with all levels of government and I can cut through the bureaucracy that often gets in the way of getting things done. My family has been in Halton Region for over a century. My own history is woven into the fabric of this Region. I grew up here. I raised my family here and now they've chosen to do the same. Being part of the community means getting involved. I have spent 35 years as a volunteer firefighter, 20 years as the District Chief. I'm Past President and Life Member of the Acton Fall Fair Board, coached local hockey teams and served on the Board of the Acton Figure Skating Giving back has always been a priority. stress enough that this is my community and I know it like the back of my hand... from to south, east to west. No one else has my experience, my relationships or my total itment to Halton. I know it. I love it. And, as Chairman, I can do the best job.
