32 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 25, 2006 www.oakvillebeaver.com Crawford Lake invites artists to display their work this weekend To celebrate the upcoming winter season, Crawford Lake Conservation area is hosting Through the Eyes of an Artist. Crawford Lake offers an opportunity for learning from an Iroquoian tradition that winter was the time of storytelling and gathering together. Over the summer, Crawford Lake hosted some talented artists who explored the forest and Iroquoian village searching for inspiration. At the end of their time in the park, each artist created one or several breathtaking pieces that reflected their view, or their story of the park. To celebrate this endeavour, Crawford Lake is inviting all the artists to return to Crawford Lake to display their work at an art show and sale. Through the Eyes of an Artist is Oct. 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. 4 p.m., and includes exciting activities in addition to the art show. The Crawford Lake Gathering Place will become a gallery, and visitors will also be able to enjoy a snack, drink and listen to music. Visitors are encouraged to explore the park and visit the Iroquoian Village and scenic trails. For this special event, Crawford Lake is also offering storytelling in the Turtle Clan longhouse, nature face painting and special craft making sessions throughout the day. Through the Eyes of an Artist costs $6 per person, and children four years and under are admitted free of change. Crawford Lake Conservation Area is at the corner of Guelph Line and Steeles Ave, four kilometres south of Hwy 401, and 15 km north of the QEW. But there are measures that they can take to help combat any damage that may have occurred. · Always use sunscreen, even for relatively short times exposed to the sun. Conventional practices suggest using a sunscreen with a an SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 15. Anything less could lead to sunburn or other, more serious problems down the road. Sunblocks should be applied all year, not just during the peak summer season. Even though it may be cold outdoors, that does not negate the power of ultraviolet rays. Plus, a landscape covered in pure white snow can reflect the sun's rays and lead to nasty burn as well. · Bundle up. Just as you'd wear wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses in the summer, protect your skin from the harsh wind and icy temperatures of winter. Pollution can cause trouble. Environmental factors apart from sun and wind can also damage the skin. Pollution contributes to the number of free radicals in the air, which can cause diminished vitality and appearance of the skin. Minimize exposure to smoke, smog and areas where pollution is prevalent. 518 POSTRIDGE DRIVE 905.257.7427 www.colouraddiction.com I N N O VA T I V E H A I R D E S I G N salon mercedes · Call for our Fall Specials! · Esthetics now available 905.849.7774 77 Lakeshore Rd.
