www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 25, 2006 - 5 Chris Stoate We have all been stuck in traffic jams beside big, empty buses so we agree on the problem. It is complex with environmental, lifestyle and economic implications. We must reduce greenhouse gases. We cannot accept traffic that gets heavier as we grow. Time spent in transit can cut deeply into the heart of community life. How can you get the kids to the soccer game when you can't get home from work in time? It is no good to keep throwing money at the problem. That's where those big, empty buses came from. If I am elected mayor I will apply real leadership and proven business management skills to this problem and I will do three things: I will accept that there is no magic bullet; this problem is complex and in the short and mid terms we will need a combination of good roads and truly useful public transit. Second, I will lead Council as it hashes out a comprehensive transportation and environment policy and third, we will insist that it is Chris Stoate reflected in every aspect of planning and development. We agree on the problem. The question is which one of us has proven up to the job of solving it. Please visit www.votestoate.ca and read Ideas and Choices in Transportation. While you are there, please check out my credentials and see why I believe I am the only candidate for mayor you can count on to do the job.
