www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday November 10, 2006 - 19 Dog Guides hosts Pet Pics with St. Nick on Saturday Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is hosting its annual event Pet Pics with St. Nick on Saturday, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at 152 Wilson St. Pet owners can have their pet's photo taken with Santa Claus for only $10 and all proceeds will benefit Dog Guides. Furry friends of all kinds are welcome to attend the event. Attendees can meet Dog Guide trainers for some hints, learn more about fostering a puppy, and enjoy holiday shopping from the Dog Guides gift shop. Grandma's Attic, Home and Gift, and The Pampered Chef are just a few of the direct sale retailers that will be featured at the event. Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a federally incorporated charitable foundation. Its mission is to provide service to Canadians with disabilities in the areas of mobility, safety and independence. In addition to training Dog Guides for people who are blind or visually impaired, Dog Guides are also trained to meet the needs of Canadians with hearing and other medical and physical disabilities. It costs approximately $20,000 to raise and train each Dog Guide, yet Dog Guides are provided at no cost to qualified applicants from across the country. Remembrance Day y service on Saturday The Oakville Legion branch 114 is hosting a Remembrance Day service Saturday that begins at 10:30 a.m. Veterans will leave from Church and Navy streets and march along Lakeshore and up Trafalgar to the cenotaph at St. George's Square. Veterans march first, followed by members of the Armed Forces, RCMP, OPP, Halton Police, Oakville Firefighters, Knights of Columbus, Cadets, Scouts and Guides and local dignitaries. At 11 a.m., a ceremony will be held at St. George's Square. Veterans will march back to Church and Navy following the ceremony.
