The King's Highway on CD By Sabrina Byrnes SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER The history and heritage of Lakeshore Rd. otherwise know as the King's Highway, has now made its way into a storytelling audio CD with its recent official launch. The King's Highway Audio Tour made its official debut at the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame Thursday afternoon and the partnering museums took the opportunity to thank everyone involved for making it possible, including the Ontario Trillium Foundation, which provided a $25,000 grant toward the project. The four partnering museums, The Joseph Brant and Ireland House museums in Burlington, the Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate, the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in Oakville, and the Benares and Bradley museums of Mississauga, collaborated to come up with this innovative idea to bring more traffic to the museums and to educate the public about the history that they are surrounded by. "People drive around here all the time, and the have no idea what they are driving by," said Karen Hewson Director of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. "It's more than just a pretty drive, there's all sorts of history, there are all sorts of great estates, and there are stories about the families." The new audio tour begins at the Joseph Brant Museum in Burlington, and ends in Mississauga featuring voice-overs by Oakville Mayor Ann Mulvale, Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion and Burlington Regional Councillor Joan Lougheed. The storytelling CD features a map to guide you along the way as you observe your historical surroundings. Walking or biking the route is possible, but most tend to drive. "Most people drive that route and the idea was to have them stop and observe their surroundings," said Hewson commenting on the idea behind the audio CD. The cd is free and may be picked up at any of the partnering museums. For information on the CD visit the website at www.thekingshighwaytour.ca. at Sescolite Burlington Spot!
