www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday November 11, 2006 - 7 Small world Hutchins sign books Local authors Donna and Nigel Hutchins will be in Bookers today from 1 3 p.m. signing copies of their newest book: The Maple Leaf Forever. Published by Boston Mills Press, it's a coffee table book about Canadian symbols, including the beaver, the mountie and the maple leaf. This is the Hutchins' fourth book. The pair's first three were about architectural preservation. The Maple Leaf Forever is available at Chapters, Bookers and other large book retailers across Canada. Continued from page 6 The day after I shared this tale of fairy trees with Joyce Burnell and her committee, a strange thing happened. Dr. George Atkins, the first tree saviour, phoned her out of the blue. She recounted this story to him. "That's very interesting," he said. "You know, my great grandfather, Anthony Joseph O'Laughlin came to Canada during the Irish Potato Famine in 1850. He settled in the Kingston area for a short while, then moved to what is now Bronte." Joyce asked, "And where in Ireland did he come from?" The answer will send shivers down your spine: "County Clare," he said -- the same County Clare! So, if anyone is still considering cutting down the great white oak that stands alone on Bronte Road in Halton Region, perhaps they should consider what forces they are messing with. Fairy tales can come true. For information visit www.halton.ca or call 905-825-6000 or 1-866442-5866. Correction A Wednesday, Nov. 8 article, Ward 5 Region candidates come out swinging, stated Ward 5 Town council candidate Janice Caster lost to Marc Grant in 2003. In fact, Caster, who'd served three years as a Town councillor, ran as a Regional/Town councillor in 2003 and lost to incumbent Jeff Knoll. This time around, Caster is running against Grant, not Knoll, for the Town council seat. The Oakville Beaver regrets the error and any inconvenience it may have caused.
