The Rangers posted a 5-1 record in their six games, allowing only five goals. Oakville clinched the title with a 3-0 win over the Markham Waxers in the championship game. Three local fencers win medals at OCC event Three members of the Canadian Fencing Academy of Oakville won medals at a recent Ontario Challenge Circuit (OCC) event in Newmarket. Kirsten Ball claimed silver in women's epee after dropping a controversial overtime decision in the final, while teammate Janet Jackowski took bronze. Leah Fidanza won the club's second bronze medal of the event, placing third in women's foil. In men's epee, Andrew Hu finished fifth, while Rick Behnke was the club's top men's foilist with a 12th-place outing. Other local competitors at the event included Bernadette Gomes, Sam Selerno, Mike Kreder and Dave Scola. The team is currently preparing to host a pentathlon event next weekend at the Canadian Fencing Academy's fencing salle, located at 220 Wyecroft Rd. Elite competitive members will head to Vancouver for the second part of the Canadian Selection Circuit. Minor atom Rangers stingy in tournament win Disciplined defensive play and reliable goaltending were key as the Oakville minor atom AAA Rangers won the championship at last weekend's International Blueline AAA Hockey Tournament in Kitchener. Oakville won all but one of its games at the tournament, clinching gold with a 3-0 blanking of the Markham Waxers in the final. Ashur Elliot, Sam Vasilaros-Wilson and Matthew Spencer scored for the Rangers, while Michael Bradshaw earned the shutout. The Rangers advanced to the title game with a 4-1 semifinal win over the ElginMiddlesex Chiefs. Jesse Barwell, Andrew Dumaresque, Andrew Burns and Elliot scored in the victory and Ben Blacker allowed only a third-period marker. In round-robin play, Oakville went 3-1. The Rangers defeated Elgin-Middlesex 6-1, Kitchener 5-1 and Hamilton 3-0, with their only loss coming 2-1 to the Toronto Young Nats. Scoring in round-robin play were Boston Elliott, Cole Buchan, Austin Seaver, Oliver Chau, Barwell, Elliot, Dumaresque and Vasilaros-Wilson.
