This Saturday the community opens its' doors to a studio of light and energy...the Shama-Bhakti Yoga Centre. Christine U is your host and your teacher. Having practiced yoga for 25 years, and teaching for 10... Christine has that professional `edge' in the yoga community. Vastly qualified, she has molded her knowledge of Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga to accommodate each student level. "My philosophy is every participant has to learn to grow at their own pace." Whether a beginner, intermediate or advanced, classes are designed to individually address each student with the benefit of variations and adjustments. "Ashtanga and Vinyasa are my favourite types of yoga to practice and to teach," explains Christine, which sets her apart from other studios. "It can be as vigorous as your level dictates." For those of us who are a little `rusty' Christine has formulated the `Fundamentals of Yoga Postures'. This pre-registered $60 four-week course will reinstate confidence and ability. "It's about feeling comfortable with the transition from one posture to another." The studio itself is intimate and inspirational. Light bathes the sailcloth ceiling and bamboo floors creating a mood of peace and well-being. It is here that Christine encompasses not only her yoga teachings, but also the practice of creating and maintaining a healthy environment. "I chose Oakville as it shares the same concerns as my own. It is a vibrant community passionate about environmental issues. My studio will be a place of personal and communal health...presenting lecturers, authors and art exhibits addressing these issues." Basically, Christine's goal is to 'build on an already conscientious community'. So it should be mentioned that this Kerr Village studio offers `by appointment only', the Thai Yoga Bodywork...a massage that promises to leave you relaxed, nourished and energetic!
