The resolution says the Region and its four municipalities can't make way for the massive population increase slated for the area in Ontario's Places to Grow plan unless the Province commits to providing Halton with the needed financial capacity to address infrastructure deficits and requirements. "This says to the Province that action is required before we proceed," Carr said. The McGuinty government has announced that it will invest more than $348,000 in a new Sheridan College program entitled `Canadian Journalism for Internationally Trained Writers.' The investment is part of the Breaking Down Barriers campaign in which the McGuinty government has committed over $53 million to more than 90 bridge training programs in an effort to help thousands of newcomers find work in more than 100 professions and trades. At a ceremony held at the college last Friday, the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Mike Colle explained how recognizing international experience would benefit not only Canadian journalism but also Canada as a whole. "We are poised to be very powerful, as a country and as a province, because of this intellectual talent, but this intellectual talent needs to be nurtured and needs an opportunity to flower, and that's what this investment is all about," said Colle.
