10 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday April 7, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Town seeks more input on strategic plan The Town of Oakville is asking for more public input as Mayor Rob Burton and councillors prepare Council's 2007-2010 strategic plan. A community input session was held on March 21 to outline the vision, mission, values and priorities adopted by Council at its March 3, 2007 strategic planning session. The public is now invited to visit www.oakville.ca to add ideas on how to make Oakville "the most livable town in Canada." "As a new council, the first stage of our strategic planning process was for us to define our vision, mission, and values to provide direction to the Corporation of the Town of Oakville for the next four years," said Burton. "Council worked closely with the Town's senior leadership team to define a vision, mission and values that would help guide Council and staff in their decision-making," said the mayor. Burton noted the vision, mission and values adopted by Council have been translated into specific goals and asked the public to focus on the actions they would like to see the Town take to achieve these goals, as well as providing input on how they would like to see the Town's progress measured. A copy of the presentation is available on the Town's website and the public is invited to e-mail comments to strategicplan@oakville.ca by April 16, 2007. Staff will report to Council in May with the proposed action plans and performance measures to achieve Council's goals, with a focus on five key areas in 2007 including livability, accountability, the natural environment, continuous improvement, and fiscal sustainability. In addition, Council identified the need to ensure the Town as an employer creates a positive work environment for its employees. "Setting the strategic direction for the organization is one of Council's most critical responsibilities," said Burton. "We look forward to working with staff, residents, business and other stakeholders over the next four years to make sure that we deliver the policies, programs and services to make Oakville the most livable town in Canada," said the mayor.
