Friday, May 25 is the Spring Showcase, featuring professionals from the Oakville Ballet Company and dancers from the professional division of the Oakville School of dance. The 78 ballet dancers will be performing Giselle, with the performance to start at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, May 26, the Oakville Ballet Company and the Oakville School of Dance ­ 110 dancers ­ will perform in the Spring Evening of Dance. There will be two shows, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and dancers will perform the comic ballet, La Fille Mal Gardee, National Ballet of Canada soloist Etienne Lavigne will dance in both the Friday and Saturday performances. Lavigne has been dancing with the Oakville Ballet Company for years, and is always a part of the local company's Nutcracker show during the Christmas season. This year's spring shows will also feature an internationally known Cuban contemporary dancer, Jose Carret. The Oakville School of Dance and the Oakville Ballet Company began rehearsing two months ago for the spring shows, which have been a tradition in town for more than 30 years. The Oakville School of Dance, which began in 1960, is one of the oldest schools of dance in Canada.
