10 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 6, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Joint Commodore Sail Past Saturday afternoon More than 100 ships will be casting off this Saturday as the three sailing and boat clubs along Sixteen-Mile Creek participate in the first Joint Commodore Sail Past in honour of Oakville's 150th anniversary. "This marks our 100th anniversary, the club was founded in 1907," said David Angas, Commodore of the Oakville Club. "But, what's really significant is that this is the first time we're hosting a joint sail past with the other two clubs on the Sixteen, the Oakville Yacht Squadron and the Oakville Power Boat Club. They have kindly and ceremonially agreed to join our sail past this year to commemorate and celebrate our 100th year here in the 150th year of the Town of Oakville." Depending on the weather of the day Angas expects between 100 and 120 boats to exit Oakville Harbour for Lake Ontario beginning at around 1 p.m. with the ceremonial sail past taking place about 100 yards off the pier at 1:30 p.m. A reception will be held by the Oakville Powerboat Club located at 99 Forsythe St. W. at around 3:30 p.m. with a joint reception taking place at the Oakville Yacht Squadron located at the same location shortly thereafter. Library will open Clearview branch The Oakville Public Library will be opening a Clearview Neighbourhood Branch in the fall. Town Council approved the leased site at Unit E, 1148 Winston Churchill Blvd. The branch will be in a newlyconstructed building in close proximity to many homes. The Neighbourhood Branch to serve Clearview -- and southeasterly points of Oakville -- is slated to open on Saturday, Oct. 20 during Public Library Week celebrations. The goal is to provide a community space where busy families can borrow books, use the Internet, access the library catalogue, do school work, cosy up with their children to share a picture book, or attend a pre-school story time program. The Neighbourhood Branch will be located in more than 2,500 sq. ft. of flexible, leased space and will be open 20 hours per week at times that are convenient for residents. For added convenience, a 24-hour book drop will also be available. The focus of the collection at the Clearview site will be on materials for children and young students, with a selection of popular adult fiction, non-fiction, and DVDs available as well. This location will also provide local access to all items in the Oakville Public Library's collection, as residents will be able to place a hold on an item that the system owns, and have it delivered to the Clearview location for pick up. The service profile of the branch has been designed by library staff using public consultation and the results of an online survey conducted by the OPL between March 30 and May 18, 2007.
