Residents fight intensification Fantasy Fruit Market site By Kim Arnott SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER Decision-making time may still be three months away, but local residents are already lining up in opposition to a proposal to build a three-storey retirement residence alongside Oakville's Coronation Park. The proposal, from residence home operator Reichmann Seniors Housing Development Corporation, calls for the construction of a 124-unit building on the former property of Fantasy Fruit Market, as well as three adjacent residential lots. Neighbours are concerned the building is too big for the property and the neighbourhood, and would be out-of-character in an area dominated by single-family homes. At a meeting of Town council on Monday night, about a dozen residents came forward to argue against the proposal, which won't officially be considered until Sept. 10. Jury: Guilty of manslaughter By Krissie Rutherford OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF A 30-year-old man who killed his sister and dismembered her body in their Oakville condo was found guilty of manslaughter yesterday (Thursday). George Arsoniadis, who says he killed his oftenaggressive sister Helen in self-defence, was found not guilty of second-degree murder as charged. Justice John Sproat will set a date for his sentencing on July 4 at Milton court to determine how long Arsoniadis will serve in prison. Time served is doubled in most manslaughter cases, and George has already served nearly two years since his July 11, 2005 arrest. He showed no emotion when the eight-woman, four- George Arsoniadis attendance yesterday. "He's disappointed that he's not leaving today," defence attorney Paul O'Marra said. "He's always maintained that he defended himself, that he had no other man jury announced the verdict Thursday at 2:45 p.m., after nine hours of deliberation over two days.
