The choir of singers from Uganda is on a sixmonth Canadian tour to raise awareness and support for Watoto Child Care Ministries. It's a childsponsorship organization that cares for Ugandan children left orphaned by the AIDS epidemic, civil strife and other catastrophic events. Approximately two million children in Uganda have been orphaned by these events. More than 880,000 Ugandan children have lost one or both of their parents to AIDS. Watoto cares for approximately 1,500 children, and has a goal to care for 10,000 in the future. Watoto villages are built to become self-sustaining. Each village consists of homes for the children, a school, a medical clinic, a community centre, and an agricultural project. The Watoto Children's Choir's Concert of Hope features exotic African rhythm and harmonies accented by brilliant Ugandan costumes and inspirational stories from the children of Watoto Children's Villages. The Watoto Children's Choir will perform on Sunday, July 8 at 10 a.m. at the Evangel Pentecostal Church, 1450 Rebecca St. For more information, visit www.watoto.ca.
