8- The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday August 22, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Halton Museum hosts British Saloon Car Club Show on Sunday On Sunday, Aug. 26 from 11-4 p.m., British cars from the pre-war era to the present day will be showcased on the scenic Halton Region Museum grounds in Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. "This year's crowd-pleasers are two Rolls Royces and a 1978 drophead Cornishe" said Tony Fox of the British Saloon Car Club of Canada. According to. Fox, the club has a wide variety of vehicles including Wolseleys, Rileys, Hillmans, Austins, Rovers and Morrises. These cars are all saloons - a British English term for sedan. "One of the most popular cars on display is bound to be the Austin Mini," said Fox. "These are really in vogue at the moment. The Club has around 120 of these iconic cars." The British Saloon Car Club of Canada, established in 1994, boasts approximately 540 members worldwide who are passionate about these lesser known British cars. Each year, the club hosts its display for the general public on the grounds of the Halton Region Museum, with a picnic for Club members in the historic Alexander Barn. Entry to the car display is free with admission to Kelso Conservation Area, conveniently located minutes from Hwy. 401 at Milton. Naturally Green Pesticide Awareness Program The Town of Oakville participates in the `Naturally Green' Pesticide Education and Awareness campaign in partnership with Halton Region, area municipalities, Landscape Ontario and the Organic Landscape Alliance. As part of the program, the Town encourages residents with sensitivities to pesticides to sign up for the Town's confidential pesticide registry. The Town supports registrants by sending Naturally Green pesticide awareness information to nearby homes and businesses. This is expected to be the last year for the Pesticide Registry as By-Law #2007-036, a by-law to regulate the use of pesticides within the Town of Oakville. comes into effect January 1, 2008.
