Great-West Life puts a lot of `heart' into Y elcoming a neighbour in need into your home is always the right thing to do, and GreatWest Life has confirmed this for the YMCA of Oakville with its outstanding support of the transition of Halton Healthcare's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program to the Peter Gilgan Family Y. On Monday, Aug. 20, Bruce Ireland, president and CEO of the YMCA of Oakville, was on hand to receive a donation of $100,000 from Great-West Life Regional Director, Todd Cloutier. This donation was made through Key to Giving -- the national corporate citizenship program of Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life. Through the program, the companies contribute to nonprofit, charitable and community organizations across the country to address health and wellness, education, social services, arts and culture and civic initiatives. The Key to Giving program W MEETING DATE: Thursday August 30th, 2007 MEETING TIME: 7:00 pm MEETING LOCATION: Iroquois Ridge Community Centre, 1051 Glenashton Drive (Glenashton Drive, east of Eighth Line) SUBJECT PROPERTY also supports the volunteer involvement of staff and financial security advisors in their efforts to meet the needs of the communities in which they live and work. Cloutier explained that the story of the Y's provision of space for the cardiac rehabilitation program came to him through Y Board member Don McGowan of McGowan Insurance Services Limited, a financial security advisor associated with Great-West Life. McGowan had told him how the Y opened its doors to the cardiac rehab team and patients in September 2006. He explained that movement to the Y allows people who are going through the stress of cardiac rehabilitation to complete the program in a more open, `real-life' type of environment. Patients are then more likely to adopt a healthy lifestyle when the program is complete. "Great-West appreciates that this is a unique combination of hospital and community services," said Cloutier. "We visited the Y over a year ago when the cardiac space was just a shell, and we loved the idea of moving the program out of very cramped conditions at the hospital. Great-West has invested in a lot of health and wellnessrelated programs and this is a prime example of employees, customers, a good cause and good people all coming together." Thank you Great-West for putting your `heart' into the YMCA of Oakville, and for helping us welcome Oakville cardiac rehabilitation patients to the Peter Gilgan Family Y! -- Submitted by the Oakville Y.
