KSM5K fun is all for kids About 500 people took in Kerr Street Ministries' (KSM) second annual 5KSM Run for Hope Saturday. Of 272 registrants, 240 runners crossed the 5K finish line at Heritage Square on Kerr Street. Almost 100 runners/walkers crossed the 1K line. Thanks to sponsor MacDougall, MacDougall, and MacTier, all of the 5K registration fee and all pledges -- expected to tally $27,000 -- go directly to KSM's music/arts youth mentoring program. Just 16 minutes into the 5K race, Daniel Ayotte sped north on Kerr towards the finish line, crossing over at 16:11, followed 33 and 34 seconds later by Kevin Smith and Jay Skowik, respectively. At 9:45 a.m., approximately 100 runners/walkers lined up for the "Officer Ellie 1K" walk/run. Adults, even toddlers and babies in buggies, set off after Ellie Van Vliet, retired Kerr Village constable, gave the countdown. This year's event was busier and more festive than the inaugural event in many ways, thanks to its new location beside Heritage Square and its combination with the Kerr Village BIA's Music and Buskers Festival which followed and the Organic Farmers' Market, which was in full swing during the race morning.
