Hall is no stranger to CBC comedies Continued from page 34 mercials, she's the woman who is discussing chips in the kitchen with a few friends and pronounces Jalapeno exactly as it's spelled. Hall got one of her first big breaks in the industry because of a character she wrote for Death of a Salesgirl, a play about "four sales girls who die as a result of their work." She used her experience as a waitress to create a "surly 15-year-old who hates her parents and hates God," and serves burgers at Lick's. Hall and three other women performed the play in Toronto "in front of little to no audience," she says, but caught a break and "totally unexpected success" when CBC producers came out to the show. They bought it as a one-hour comedy special called To Die 4, which earned a Canadian Comedy Award nomination for writing of a television spe- cial. Hall had appeared previously on CBC on a show called The Blobheads, where she played "a saucy, man-hungry school teacher who's lonely inside." She was also cast as "a crazy lady who hates hockey" and painted her face like a panther on CBC's The Tournament. Hall's recent Gemini nomination for best performance in a guest role by an actress in a dramatic series is for a character she played for three episodes on CBC's The Jane Show. Aside from television, she has also had some time on the big screen, including a role as a news announcer at the beginning of Hairspray, and a short part in Shall We Dance along with Richard Gere in an elevator. "I told my mom, I know what Richard Gere smells like," Hall said, smiling. "I've made it."
