OBA champs REPVOLLEYBALL The Cubs will compete this season in the Ontario Volleyball Association's female under-18, u19 and u21 divisions. Experienced competitive players are invited to attend tryouts, which will be held Monday (8-10 p.m.), Wednesday (6-8 p.m.) and Thursday (7-10 p.m.) at the college's athletics centre. Mountain Athletic Club seeking girls Mountain Athletic Club Volleyball is back and looking for female athletes aged 14-18 interested in competing in the Ontario Volleyball Association. Tryouts for 17-under, 16U, 15U and 14U girls' teams will be held Sept. 17, 19, 24 and 26. 18U girls' tryouts will take place Sept. 18, 20, 25 and 27. All tryouts will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at St. Mary's Secondary School in Hamilton, and a one-time tryout fee will be charged. Tryouts for boys' teams will be announced at a later date. A 3-1 win over the Tecumseh Rangers clinched Ontario Baseball Association gold recently for the Oakville A's mosquito AAA team. Oakville went 5-1 at the provincial championships in Windsor, also posting victories over Peterborough, Barrie, Cambridge and Pickering with their lone loss coming against the Rangers. The team, comprised of 10- and 11-year-old boys, includes A.J. Smith, Daniel Ohorodnyk, Alex Fulton, Kyle Carey, Andrew Yancan, Matthew Pilarczyk, Graeme Rourke, Josh Coish, Lee Joch, John Whaley, Keenan Lutzko, Jason Provost and Jonathan Moate. Bob Lutzko, Mike Provost, Dave Fulton and John Holloway coach the team, which is managed by Dwayne Smith. Silver for u16 Rockets The Oakville Rockets went 4-2 at the recent National Capital Invitational Soccer Tournament in Ottawa, claiming silver. The under-16 girls' rep team defeated Ottawa South United Force 3-0, Goulbourn Gators 3-0, Ottawa Internationals 2-0 and Clarkson Comets 2-1 (5-4 in penalty kicks). Oakville's losses came to the Comets (2-1 in the final round-robin game) and Whitby Warriors (2-0 in the championship contest). Members of the team, sponsored by WSC Insurance Group and Don and Marie Connor, are Meghan Zisis, Laurel Greig, Kristen Thompson, Corinne Smith, Lindsay McDonald, Heather Thompson, Keri Morrison, Sam McLaren, Logan Bishop-Currey, Kate Seagrove, Meghan Hughes, Alycia Walker, Emmi Soeder, Chrissy Whitman, Danielle McLean, Brittany Connor and Kayla Goodhoofd. David Bishop and Alan McLaren coach the team, with Cathy Walker serving as trainer and Ian Smith as manager. SILVER SMILES: The Oakville Rockets under-16 girls' soccer team finished second at a recent tournament in Ottawa. Harrigan the hero Justin Harrigan converted a penalty kick in the final minute to lift the Oakville Inferno to a 3-2 win over East York and the championship at a recent under-13 boys' soccer tournament in North Mississauga. Nic Rajic and Mikey Owen also scored for Oakville in the win, which capped off an undefeated showing at the tournament. In earlier games, the Inferno tied Brampton 1-1, downed Oshawa 2-0 and blanked Etobicoke and North Mississauga by 1-0 scores. Nathan Smith (two), Owen (two) and Jack Mills had the other Oakville goals in the tournament. Other members of the team are Nick McKeever, Gordon Elliot, Mitch Atkinson, Cameron Leslie, Will Scott, Ben Dobosz, Hugh Parker, Lukas Machaj, Jake Barns, Adam Corbett, Josh Brazil, Greg Kruzel and Colin Campbell. Clive Campbell and Craig Brazil coach the team, and Lawrence Barns is the trainer. ON FIRE: The Oakville Inferno under-13 boys' soccer team went undefeated at a recent tournament in North Mississauga, clinching the championship with a 3-2 victory over East York in the final.
