Part of an initiative that is taking place all across Canada, this year's TD GCSC will see communities, schools, corporations and organizations engage in a cleanup of all the garbage left at shorelines, parks, and water- ways during the summer months. In Oakville's case seven local areas have been scheduled for cleanup including Bronte Harbour, Sixteen Mile Creek-Lions Valley and the Morrison Creek System. The TD GCSC cleanup makes a world of difference to the environment with last year's national efforts resulting in more than 40,000 volunteers picking up 84,708 kg of garbage from more than 950 cleanup sites. This year is shaping up to be much more productive with more than 50,000 people volunteering to pick up garbage at more than 1,200 cleanup sites across Canada so far. Naturally Green Pesticide Awareness Program The Town of Oakville participates in the `Naturally Green' Pesticide Education and Awareness campaign in partnership with Halton Region, area municipalities, Landscape Ontario and the Organic Landscape Alliance. As part of the program, the Town encourages residents with sensitivities to pesticides to sign up for the Town's confidential pesticide registry. The Town supports registrants by sending Naturally Green pesticide awareness information to nearby homes and businesses. This is expected to be the last year for the Pesticide Registry as By-Law #2007-036, a by-law to regulate the use of pesticides within the Town of Oakville. comes into effect January 1, 2008. The Purpose and Effect of Zoning Amendment By-law 2007-149 is to correct an error in the Comprehensive Zoning By-law affecting the lands at 409 and 417 Lakeshore Road West. When these lands were rezoned in 2005 the By-law was passed without its accompanying map schedules.
