At this year's Carousel of Nations Fall Festival on Oct. 20, the Caribbean pavilion will showcase the rich Caribbean culture and celebrate the contributions that people from the Caribbean have made to the social and cultural fabric of Oakville, Halton and Ontario. The CCAH cultural pavilion will promote understanding of Caribbean culture by raising awareness through engaging educational and celebratory activities. We will present live performances of the spoken word, music and dance, visual art, educational displays and artifacts. Visitors will also be able to sample mouth-watering cuisine. Cultural aspects of the Caribbean such as steel pan music (with its origin in the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago), calypso and reggae (roots from Jamaica and Trinidad) will be showcased. The community Steel Band `Rhythms of the Caribbean' was introduced in 2004 and will be performing at the festival. A variety of traditional Caribbean dishes will be available such as: jerk chicken, jerk pork, curried chicken, curried goat, rice and peas, Carib beer and Caribbean fruit drinks. In addition, there will be a variety of desserts including potato pudding; cassava pudding and fried plantain. The Caribbean pavilion will present a dynamic Cultural Festival with roots and traditions in the Caribbean. The Caribbean pavilion will be at the Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. North. The 9th Annual Carousel of Nationals Cultural Fall Festival will take place at five different venues over the course of Saturday, Oct. 20, from 11:30 a.m. 11:30 p.m. Africa and the Caribbean will be represented at Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. Latin America's display and entertainment will take place at Sheridan College, 1430 Trafalgar Rd., while Holy Trinity Croatian Church, 2110 Trafalgar Rd., will house the celebration for Croatia. India will be represented at the Vaishno Devi Temple, 3259 Bronte Rd. Finally, the Halton Regional Centre at 1151 Bronte Rd. will be packed with cultural groups representing Arabic Nations, Hawaii, Poland, Taiwan and Ukraine / Russia.
