It's an opportunity for local residents to experience various cultures and cuisines from around the world. The day-long event features 10 cultural groups with displays at various locations around town. The Carousel of Nations Cultural Fall Festival was initiated in 1999 by the United Way of Oakville to celebrate diverse cultures in Oakville. The festival has allowed cultural groups and visitors to the pavilions to celebrate their heritage by tasting food, learning through arts and educational displays and observing traditional entertainment. Over the years the event has been recognized as one that fosters cultural awareness and understanding of other cultures in Oakville and Halton. The Carousel of Nations Fall Festival will take place at the following locations: · Africa and the Caribbean - Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. · Latin America, Hawaii and Portugal Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, 1430 Trafalgar Rd. · Croatia Knights of Columbus Hall, 1494 Wallace Rd. Laugh yourself silly for a good cause Comedian Milton Berle said that laughter is an instant vacation. That would make Chuckles for Charity a mini-comedy holiday. More than 100 people quickly shelled out the $150 ticket price to climb on board this Oct. 19 fundraiser. The comedy event brings `That Canadian Guy' Glen Foster, Humble Howard Glassman and Funny Mom Kate Davis to the Studio Theatre at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts. The now sought-after event is sold out but there is a waiting list for tickets that go spare, said organizing committee spokesperson Tina Christie. Community Living Oakville provides myriad support for people with intellectual disabilities, including employment, education and advocacy, to foster integration in society. The Children's Aid Foundation of Halton is committed to improving the lives of abused and neglected children. Kerr Street Ministries serves local low income families through a foodbank, and drop AM in programs for adults, children and youth. The Goddard Group Charitable Foundation supports community-based philanthropy through an endowment fund and next year is supporting a partnership program for promising students from low-income families keen on pursuing post-secondary education.
