30 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday December 8, 2007 www.oakvillebeaver.com Festive fundraiser Best Village at Kerr Senior Citizens' Centre On Sunday, Dec. 16 the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH) will host its annual concert of the Seniors Drop-in Activities Program - Best Village. The concept of Best Village is rooted in the Caribbean Islands of Trinidad and Tobago traditional culture. Seniors with a Caribbean background will directly relate to the program. It occurs annually, celebrating skills in amateur folk performances. The program has a strong intergenerational connection building upon strengths, knowledge and abilities of seniors and passing these on to the youth and vice versa. Together they have produced a body of music that they will perform. This program celebrates the arts and has community-wide involvement. The concert will include folk singers, dancers, steel pan music and guest performing artists. It will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Oakville Seniors' Centre, 263 Kerr St. Admission is free. For information call 905-257-0908. The objectives of the seniors program are to: · Create opportunities for seniors to interact with volunteers, youth and professional artists; · Reduce the risk of isolation by engaging seniors in activities of their culture thereby contributing to their social well being.
