20 - The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday January 30, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Calling all poets to participate in P008 Oakville is looking for poets to participate in Poetry Month and the deadline for submissions is Feb. 10. April is officially Poetry Month in town, and once again Poetry Oakville P008 will be offering a packed month of poetry events. The committee is looking for poetry for four of its planned events. These include Poetry with a Conscience, which runs Sunday, April 6 from 12-2 p.m. at the Moonshine Café on Kerr Street. The event will feature poems about peace, the environment, war, feminism, abuse, politics, racism, hope and more. The committee is looking for poetry for two other events at the Moonshine Café Poetry with a Smile and NonProphet Poetry. The first will be held Sunday, April 31 from 12-2 p.m., and will feature funny poems on any topic. The latter will be held Sunday, April 21 from 12-2 p.m. and will include secular poetry, non-religious poems, those that challenge organized religions, humanist and science poems. The final event requiring poetry, Poetic Multiculturalism, will be held Wednesday, April 23 from 6:3010 p.m. at Oakville Town Hall at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. The event will feature poems drawn from various cultures, ethnic backgrounds and international experiences. Poems about adjusting to life in Canada or life abroad will also be read. All styles and lengths of poems are acceptable. If there is any concern about a poem, P008 coordinator Elka Ruth Enola will contact the poet directly. There is no preset maximum number of poems that a poet might read at any event. That will be determined by the number of entries. Poets may participate in any or all of the events. Poets are asked to send separate emails for submissions to different events, and to send each poem as an individual attachment. All comments, questions and entries should be sent to coordinator Elka Ruth Enola at ere@sympatico.ca by Feb. 10. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.
