INCOMEPLUS Turner discusses childcare at next Town Hall meeting Halton MP Garth Turner is gearing up for his next round of Town Hall meetings, with the topic this time around being Halton's childcare crisis. The sessions are slated to take place Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Oakville Town Hall, Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Milton Sports Centre and Thursday, Feb. 21 at Tansley Woods Library in Burlington. All meetings start at 7 p.m. Turner said the lack of available childcare locally is a major hurdle for working parents to deal with. "It's important with a potential federal election possible this year that parents in Oakville, Milton and Burlington speak up now," he said. "Politicians have yet to come up with a plan that is realistic and effective, and one which understands there's a balance between the responsibility of parents and the goals of our country to have well-adjusted, well-cared-for and healthy kids. Who better to give me guidance than the families themselves?" A press release from Turner pointed out that in the rapidly growing region there are 35,000 kids under age six and more than 46,000 under age nine. But at the same time, there are just 7,000 licensed childcare spaces available locally and a waiting list of 9,000 and growing. Turner will be asking citizens attending the Town Hall meetings to come ready to discuss the childcare crisis, but the sessions will also be open to any topic of concern to constituents. Energy Conservation Tip of the Day Turn off the lights Don't leave the lights on. Many of us still leave outdoor patio lights on all night forgetting to turn them off before retreating to bed. Consider installing a timer so electricity isn't wasted. This can be adjusted from season to season as the days get longer. -- Courtesy Direct Energy SEMINAR DATES THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST, 2008 SATURDAY FEBRUARY 23RD, 2008 Afternoon Session: 1:30 to 3:00 pm Evening Session: 7:00 to 8:30 pm Burlington Art Centre (Shoreline) 1333 paular@todaytomorrow.com A FREE public education seminar presented by Halton Healthcare Services HYPERTENSION & KIDNEY DISEASE with Dr. Daniel Sapir, M.B., ChB., FRCP (C) Nephrologist, Halton Healthcare Services Morning Session: 10:00 to 11:30 am Lakeshore Rd., Burlington T reserve your seat, call Paula o 905-336-9941 Wednesday, February 20, 2008 6:30 pm Displays and Refreshments 7:00 pm Seminar www. todaytomorrow.com Handouts will be provided and refreshments served.
