www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday February 15, 2008 - 37 Ridge ousted Blades finish with OT win by Nelson Continued from page 36 and Adrian Zagabe netted nine. Assumption was paced by 19-point efforts from speedy guard Jacques Kalonji and athletic centre Chadrack Lufile. Trailblazers overwhelmed The Trailblazers, 5-5 in regular-season play, trailed 48-22 at halftime and wound up losing by 39 to the defending (AAA) Halton champion Lords. "I told our guys before the game they had to be patient, execute and make your shots," said Ridge coach Tim Woods after the match. "We didn't play anywhere near our best game today." Nelson keyed on Iroquois Ridge's top player, six-foot-three guard Jordan Clarke, limiting him to only five points in the first half. He added 10 more when the game was out of reach. "They were quite successful taking him out of the game," said Woods. "This has happened as word gets out that Jordan is at the level he is." Woods added that Jordan, a physical player, might have been feeling the effects of a tournament in Hamilton last weekend. The good news for Iroquois Ridge is the fact that Jordan is probably coming back for a fifth year, according to Woods. Vicrum Kailey added 10 points for the Ridge and Clayton Copac contributed eight. The Trailblazers had won their firstround game, 78-59 against Abbey Park on Monday. Junior Tigers upset In junior Division 1 action, the T.A. Blakelock Tigers' dream season came to a sudden and surprising ending Wednesday. The Tigers (10-0 in regular-season play) were stunned 55-54 by the 4-6 Bishop Reding Royals at Blakelock. Two of the other three local teams in action did pull out victories, however. The Holy Trinity Titans soundly defeated the Nelson Lords 59-37, and the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders whipped the Assumption Crusaders 44-21. The Abbey Park Eagles fell in the other quarter-final contest, 63-35 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Semifinal games slated for today (3:30 p.m. starts) include Reding at Notre Dame and Aquinas at Trinity. Division 2 playoffs start today Division 2 playoffs get underway today. In senior, the White Oaks Wildcats travel to Acton and Burlington Central visits Aldershot. Winners will face either King's Christian Collegiate or Milton on Tuesday. White Oaks and KCC have firstround byes in junior Division 2, and will host winners from today's quarterfinals on Tuesday as well. Finals for senior and junior, Divisions 1 and 2, are slated for Wednesday at Sheridan College. -- With files from Kevin Nagel, special to the Beaver Nick McParland found a fitting way to conclude his stellar regular season for the Oakville Blades. McParland scored 2:57 into overtime of the Blades' final regular-season game Tuesday at Joshua's Creek Arenas, giving Oakville a 6-5 win over the Chargers. The goal was McParland's 29th of the campaign, tying him with Julian Cimadamore for tops on the team. McParland also added 48 assists this year, a team high, and was the club's top scorer with 77 points. Steven Guzzo scored twice in regulation for the Blades, with Jeremy Welsh, Geoff Guimond and Chris Haltigin also tallying. Haltigin's goal came with 1:09 to go in regulation time, tying the game 5-5 and forcing overtime. Assists went to Chris Corbeil (three), Guimond and Welsh (two apiece), and Dan Hunt, Dustin Alcock, Taylor Farris, Lindsay Sparks and Haltigin. Oliver Wren recorded the victory in goal, his third win in the past week. Scott Greenham started the game and allowed 5 goals on 35 shots before being pulled 5:14 into the third period. The game was a make-up contest for a game that was postponed last month due to weather. The Blades will now be off for a while, enjoying a first-round bye by virtue of their first-place finish in the Provincial Junior A Hockey League's West Conference standings. Hamilton, Milton, Burlington and Brampton will compete in best-of-five series in the opening round, with the winners going on to face either the Blades or the Georgetown Raiders. 2007-08 Oakville Blades leaders SKATER Nick McParland Luke Moodie Julian Cimadamore Jeremy Welsh Dustin Alcock Chris Corbeil Chris Haltigin Geoff Guimond Trevor Eckenswiller Steven Guzzo Kellan Lain Lindsay Sparks Domenic Monardo Chase Crowder Dan Hunt Jeff Grenier Sean Teakle GOALIE Scott Greenham Oliver Wren G 29 24 29 17 18 18 9 11 8 11 9 7 8 4 3 1 5 A 48 45 30 35 28 22 26 20 21 12 13 15 9 13 13 14 5 PTS 77 69 59 52 46 40 35 31 29 23 22 22 17 17 16 15 10 GAA 2.32 3.22 W-L-T 27-3-3 11-2-1 Girl's Softball irl' Softba A SPORT FOR A LIFETIME Register Online Now, and start playing Today For Registration and Clini schedules visit www.ogsa.mysportsite.com For more information visit our website or call (905) 825-5848 Burlington Minor Football Association www.burlingtonminorfootball.ca THE BEST FOOTBALL IN HALTON Softball You Gotta Love It!
