As of Tuesday morning she had more than 4,000 signatures. GO petition picks up steam Oakville resident Patricia Eales discovered she wasn't the only one fed up with late trains By Kim Arnott SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER After a frustrating week of arriving late to work every day, and late home almost as often, an Oakville commuter has launched an online petition demanding changes at GO Transit. Patricia Eales, who rides the train out of the Bronte station into downtown Toronto each day, says the service is unreliable and unsafe. "You just have to sit or stand on a GO train any day of the week, and the topic of conversation is the atrocious service," she says. After getting called in to her boss' office to explain a week of late arrivals caused by cancelled and delayed trains, Eales decided to launch her online petition. The petition, available at www.ipetitions.com/petition/go_on_time, calls for passengers to receive a 50 per cent rebate on fares for trips that arrive more than 20 minutes late at their destination. Eales notes that VIA Rail already offers a similar program for its passengers. She also wants GO to provide better notification about cancelled or delayed service. Since the petition was launched on Feb. 11 the Oakville resident has received widespread media coverage. As of Tuesday morning, 4,115 people had added their names to Eales' call. Many have also added comments echoing her frustration. See Plenty page 4 175 Wyecroft Rd.
