Police said on Saturday at 4:25 p.m. emergency vehicles were alerted to a single-motor vehicle collision in the area of Westoak Trails and Vista Oak Drive. The driver was found in the vehicle with no vital signs and was taken to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said the victim was driving his vehicle eastbound on Westoak Trails, passing Vista Oak Drive when, for an unknown reason, the car mounted the northern curb and left the road. The car was travelling at a low speed and no other vehicles were hit. Witnesses to the accident stopped and performed CPR on the driver until the arrival of emergency services, but to no avail. The investigation is continuing, but preliminary information points to the deceased succumbing to a medical condition. The driver was identified as Luis Avila, 53, of Oakville. Halton Regional Police investigators from the Collision Reconstruction Unit request that any citizens who may have witnessed this collision, contact Detective Constable Steve Anderson at 905-825-4747 ext. 2380.
