14 - The Oakville Beaver Weekend, Saturday May 24, 2008 www.oakvillebeaver.com Town plans second aerial spray next week The Town of Oakville completed its first gypsy moth spray application Friday morning, as scheduled. The Town sprayed approximately 63 hectares of its forest properties with the pesticide Btk (Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies kurstaki) to help control the insect infestation. The areas that were sprayed were North Park, Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, Sixteen-Mile Creek north of Upper Middle Road and Winston Woods Park. The second and final gypsy moth aerial spray is expected to take place towards the middle of next week, subject to weather conditions. Up-to-date notification on the next spray date will be posted on the Town's website. During the spraying, the Town will again implement a traffic plan that requires temporary road and trail closures. Road closures are expected to last less than 30 minutes, between 5-8 a.m. For information on the Gypsy Moth Project, Btk and a listing of the temporary road closures and alternative traffic routes, visit www.oakville.ca/gypsymoth.htm.
