With more than 51,000 people dead, nearly 300,000 injured, around 29,000 missing and five million left homeless, bringing aid to the victims of last week's earthquake in Sichuan, China seems a daunting task, but not daunting enough to stop an Abbey Park High School student from trying. Vivian Leung who is in Grade 10, has organized Abbey Park's Great Wall of Hope, an initiative that, to date, has raised more than $1,000 for earthquake relief through the Red Cross. Launched on Tuesday Leung and a small, but dedicated, group of volunteers have spent their last three lunch periods manning a kiosk in the school's front foyer collecting donations from the student body. "For a donation of $2 you can write your name on a paper panda and post it up on our wall," said Leung.
