The 2-0 win adds to a 5-0 regular season for the Justin Yantho-coached team, which already qualified for the allOntario championships because of a 1-0 penalty-kick win over Pearson the week before. Vicky Millucci scored the first goal of the Halton final on a scramble in front of the Pearson net in the second half. The backbreaker was Jess Reynolds' goal on a strike from just outside the box. Pearson had a chance to take a 1-0 lead just before halftime when a free kick sailed just over the crossbar. Aquinas, OFSAA champions in 2006, lost in the quarterfinals last year. Thursday's Halton win was the team's third in a row. -- with files by Adam Johnston, Special More finals coverage tomorrow Halton championship games were also contested yesterday (Thursday) in boys' soccer. The finals between King's Christian Collegiate and St. Thomas Aquinas (senior AA), Loyola and T.A. Blakelock (senior AAA) and Abbey Park and Christ the King (senior AAAA) all began after the girls' finals were played. The Longhorns will open the Northern Football Conference season against the rival Milton Marauders (a 7 p.m start). Milton features a number of ex-Longhorns, including former longtime Oakville quarterback Mark Demerling. Demerling led the Longhorns to 14 NFC championships, including 11 straight titles, during his tenure in Oakville. He also owns many NFC records. Milton, coincidentally, was the team to end the Longhorns' 11-year championship streak, upsetting Oakville 35-14 at Bronte in the 2004 league final. Oakville was 5-3 last season, while Milton was 2-6. Both teams are expected to show improvement this year. Tickets for tomorrow's game will be available at the gate.
