www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 11, 2008 - 17 Bishop visits To celebrate its 50th anniversary, St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church will host a special visit from Bishop Michael Bird. The event is all the more special as the visiting bishop is an Oakville native. Bird will be in town on Sunday, June 15 to take part in a combined service of Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. and a barbecue that will follow. A special children's program will feature visits by children's entertainer Markus and Leskini the magician. St Cuthbert's is located at 1541 Oakhill Dr. (Oakhill at Maple Grove Road, two blocks north of Lakeshore Road East). According to St. Cuthbert's Reverend Canon Joseph Asselin, Bird, who served in Oakville, grew up attending St. Aidan's, also in Oakville. It was in June 1958 that St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church became an independent parish at its current location. Bird served in the parish from 1995 to 1998. He will be the preacher and presider at the June 15 service. Both the church's senior and junior choirs will perform. Markus will be present BACK HOME: Bishop Michael Bird will return to his roots on Sunday, June 15 to take part in a combined service of Holy Eucharist at St. Cuthbert's Anglican Church. during the regular Sunday school time and there will be plenty of singing, clapping, dancing and laughing to go around. The lunch hour will feature, among other items, a catered meal of hamburgers, chicken, hot dogs, salads and anniversary cake.
