www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday June 18, 2008 - 17 Halton Region will be Celebrating Seniors at its headquarters In honour of June being Seniors Month, Halton Region will host its second annual Celebrating Seniors event Friday. The theme for this year's event is Homes and Dreams and the focus is on providing seniors and their caregivers with information about what they can do to make their homes safer now and in the future. It will run from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Halton Regional Centre, located at 1151 Bronte Rd. Guest speakers at the event will include Shawn Montieth, known as Canada's Handyman, and Jamie Shipley from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Montieth will talk about home renovations that can make a home safer and more accessible for seniors, while Shipley will talk about the things that need to be considered when hiring contractors. Additionally, staff from the Region will discuss how to prevent falls. Anyone interested in attending should call 905-825-6000 to register.
