Prices are lower in the fall because the hurricane season runs June 1 to Nov. 30, for the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, and yes you may encounter a hurricane. Then again, you might not. Many resorts and tour operators are offering what they call Peace-of-mind policies. For instance, Sunquest Vacations offers various options if an official hurricane watch or warning is forecasted during your holiday or if it passes through within a week before you leave. You can change the departure dates or change your destination or, if the flight is cancelled within 24 hours of your departure, you will get a full refund. If you're evacuated, you'll get a travel credit for the portion of the accommodation good for up to a year. SuperClubs will give you reimbursement for the total number of disrupted nights and a voucher for a future stay for the same number of nights. You must use it the same month next year. Most of the other wholesalers have similar programs. Read the small print. -- Sam Ion can be reached at sion10@cogeco.ca.
