www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday August 27, 2008 - 25 Balletomane celebrates the accomplishments of their students As Balletomane embarks on the start of another school year we are pleased to celebrate the recent accomplishments of our students. The 2007 2008 School year proved to be very rewarding for the Vocational students of Balletomane who were invited to spend their summer abroad. After a successful first audition season, our senior students further developed their dance careers with professional companies and schools throughout North America. Professional Schools host Summer Intensive Programs which are designed to provide young students with an opportunity to experience intensive dance training while serving as an extended audition process for their professional programs. At Balletomane we stress the importance of experiencing the audition process for every young dancer. The ability to perform at one's best within an unfamiliar setting is a difficult task to master and one that requires a great deal of practice. Every audition becomes that much easier than the last and it allows our students the opportunity to be taught by leading experts in the dance industry and meet other young dancers that share their endless love for the performing arts. We hope to guide and nurture our dancers while still giving them an honest portrayal of the rigorous demands of this chosen profession. For a lucky group of Balletomane students the audition process proved to be a rewarding experience. Students were offered placement in the following Summer Intensive Programs: · The Alvin Ailey School (New York City, N.Y.) · The Boston Ballet (Boston, M.A.) · The School of Alberta Ballet (Calgary, AB) · The Canadian Children's Dance Theatre (Toronto, ON) · The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School (Winnipeg, MB) · The School of Toronto Dance Theatre (Toronto, ON) · The Quinte Ballet School (Belleville, ON) Our students have since returned from their summer programs and are now ready to begin the next stage of their dance training. Balletomane is pleased to announce that Oakville resident, Katie Bonnell, has been extended a full time position in the Professional Program of both The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and The School of Alberta Ballet. Katie Bonnell has been dancing since the age of 4 and now, at the age of 16, is ready to move forward in her pursuit of a professional ballet career. Katie will be accepting the RWB's offer and will be leaving for Winnipeg at the end of August. The RWB School has become one of the most respected training institutions worldwide for talented students aspiring to become dance professionals. For almost 35 years the RWB School Professional Division has been preparing young artists for careers with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company and companies around the world. It is an exceptional accomplishment for Katie to be accepted into the full-time Professional Division of both The Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company and The Alberta Ballet School. The Artistic Faculty and students of Balletomane wish Katie all the best as she embarks on this new stage of her classical ballet training.
