FORD: The maker of the best selling hybrid SUV (Escape Hybrid) in North America, Ford showed the mid-size Fusion Hybrid sedan. Ford said it could travel up to 80 km on electricity alone, quite a distance for any hybrid. This is due to a new, smaller nickel-metal hydride battery that produces 20 per cent more power. It is cooled simply by air from the cabin. A variable voltage converter boosts power from the battery by 14 per cent. Power to the road is through a constantly variable transmission (CVT) that instantly matches power to needs for the best traction with the more efficient use of energy. The Ford stand also featured a leaner, meaner 2010 Mustang with styling including more of the lines of the "Bullitt" model while the 4.6-litre V8 engine is improved to 315 hp.
