4 - The Oakville Beaver, Friday January 30, 2009 www.oakvillebeaver.com Police board chair re-elected By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The chair of the Halton Regional Police Services board will serve a third term. The seven-member, civilian group, which oversees the police service, re-elected Robert Maich of Oakville during a board meeting last week. The nomination to return Maich to his position was brought forward by Vice Chair Richard Burgess and confirmed unanimously by the other members of the board. Maich, whose experience includes being board director for Big Brothers of Metro Toronto, president and board director of Silcorp, and managing director and president of Colgate (Africa) Ltd., said he is looking forward to continuing the board's work. "I'm pleased to carry on and I'm also pleased the board of seven people is the same that's been in place for the last two years because continuity is important," said Maich. "We've got a quality police service and it and the citizens of the community require quality at the board level as well, so I'm pleased that the whole board is carrying on." Last week's board meeting also saw the unanimous re-election of Burlington resident Richard Burgess to the role of vice chair. Burgess, who operates a law office in Burlington and has served as chair of the Burlington Arts Centre and chair of the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, is entering his fourth term as vice chair. Burgess noted the last few years have seen great upheaval within the Halton police service, but also points out that the results have been positive. "We've had a new chief and two new deputy chiefs within the last two to three years and we've seen the invigoration of the service through their initiatives," said Burgess.
