Two Hornets house league teams win titles at Oakville tournament Two Oakville Hornets teams won championships at the Hornets' annual house league tournament last weekend. The tyke Orange Tigers and bantam Teal Titans won their divisions, while six other local teams reached their respective finals. The Orange Tigers earned tyke gold with a 6-2 victory over the Oakville Blue Lightning in the final. The Orange Tigers also defeated the Oakville Green Gators 1-0, Burlington Senators 7-2 and Burlington Cheetahs 9-4 earlier in the tournament. Members of the Orange Tigers are Fiona Gervin, Charlotte Guay, Ainsley Delacourt, Caroline Law, Hailey Jeffries, Nicole O'Leary, Paige Murray, Julia Longhurst, Sarah Campbell, Jacklyn Murray, Avery Proszek and Rachel D'Armiento. Brent Murray, Neal Muschett, Richard Campbell, Don O'Leary, Jeff Longhurst and Philippe Guay coach the team. Annette D'Armiento and Richard Campbell are the trainers. In the bantam Small Division championship game, the Teal Titans blanked the Oakville Green Teeth 4-0 to conclude an undefeated tournament. Earlier at the competition, the Teal Titans defeated Brampton 8-2, Brantford 7-2, Burlington 5-1 and Walkerton 4-0. Laura Dziuryn led the Titans' offence with 13 goals and two assists in the tournament. Other key offensive contributors were Randi Black, Tara Docherty and Manuela Montelpare. Leah McMillan recorded two shutouts in the tournament. Other members of the team are Cassandra Byj, Stephanie Goraieb, Marissa Sputore, Vanessa Butera, Shannon Farrell, Annie Laskaris, Laura Dziuryn, Amanda Kennedy, Nicole McKenna and Dana Francis-Smith. Mark Kennedy and Charlie Laskard coach the team, and Lori Kennedy is the trainer. The Oakville Stingers, Purple Penguins, Blue Thunder and Red joined the Green Gators and Green Teeth as local teams to reach division finals. The Stingers dropped the peewee final 3-2 to the St. Catharines Boomarangs; the Purple Penguins were edged 3-2 by Oshawa Innocon in the bantam Graves Division final; Red fell 21 in a shootout to Kingston in the midget final; and the Blue Thunder was blanked 5-0 by Peterborough Wrecks in the senior title game. Other division winners were the St. Catharines Inferno (novice), Mississauga Tornadoes (atom) and Ottawa #1 (intermediate).
